I think that the less time you have on your hands, the less you will post.

Case in point - myself, (helping) planning a wedding in under three weeks. Also Junko. And Fri, who's next foreseeable day off is October 17. We rock!

Yes Fri, I ran into someone you went to high school with, although Lena claims to take credit on that one for figuring it out who/where she was from. Apparently in my quest to figure out who she was Lena said, "Didn't Fri have a friend named Dawn?" To which I shot up and ran to her and exclaimed, "You went to Churchill!" And Dawn was surprised that I/Lena remembered. So props to Lena for jogging her 'iron-fast memory' and resulting in triggering mine.

My mommy is back from the Philippines now. Life is now in order, more or less. Don't have to be the one who worries about the garbage out on Monday mornings... yay! I took the family out for dinner on Saturday night to Hachibei (first time for everyone except myself, impressive).

We were sitting around eating or whatever when I happened to notice a very tall guy sitting at a table near us. I recognized him as someone who went to high school with me and my brothers @ St. Pat's (and ooh, hello!) Anyway, interesting detail about him, comes from a v. Catholic family of like, 8 kids. I had happened to mention that yah, they could have have benefitted from the use of condoms... to which my older brother shot back that the Catholic church does not condone the use of condoms, duh. I was like, yeah they do. No they don't. Yeah they do. No they don't. I was probably wrong, but wasn't going to be outsmart-assed by my brother, so I shot back at him, "hey you're one to talk, Mr. Living-in-Sin!" He was like, what are you talking about? "Hmm. Living with your GIRLFRIEND before marriage??" That shut him up.

My mom gave no comment. She laughed.

Hey on Sunday, I got picked up at the grocery store. Good times ;0)

Stupid Callers

In my neverending search for distractions at work, came upon a sight that listed partial transcripts from a radio call-in show based in LA called Loveline, or something like that. The hosts are Adam Carolla (from The Man Show) and Dr. Drew Pinsky. Anyway, they get a lot of dumb callers. One enterprising person decided to post some of these calls.

Laugh, I say.

VSO Opening Night

Props to Brad (my boss) for giving me his invite to go to the Opening Night of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra... 'twas a good time. My 'date' Tanya, picked me up and could not stop complimenting me on my ensemble of Jacob skirt and new black sweater from Winners. Whew, sunshine! Good times. The only thing that marred our evening was the service at White Spot (first mistake) and the 13 teenagers at the table next to us.

The opening night consisted of 3 different pieces of music, Berlioz' Rákóczy March from the Damnation of Faust; Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2; intermission; then another Berlioz piece - Symphonie Fantastique, Op. 14. (Whatever those mean, I am just reading it off the program.) Anyway, can't profess that I know a whole lot about classical music but it was fun to watch. Mind kind of wanders a bit, but in a good way. Every so often you'd become more interested in your surroundings than on the stage - that usually happens when someone behind you has fallen asleep and has started snoring... until his wife pokes him and he snoozes a little more quietly. Our seats were close to the back, but it didn't really matter as we had a pretty good view. Would definitely go again.

After the concert we went to the post-concert reception where they were serving canapés and champagne. Hobnobbed with semi-famous people - ie. Svend Robinson, Peter Ladner, that blonde SRC anchor woman (French CBC)... on the way out, got very strange look (in manner of evil lesbian "I want you" stare) from woman sitting at the bottom of the stairs. Tanya said it was because I was looking so hot. Which I don't think was quite the case... yeah I looked alright but really, no super-cleavage as one might have seen if I was wearing the dress I was originally planning to wear...

Good thing I didn't, was kind of nipply afterwards. Tanya dropped me off at Gerald's housewarming party, where I was coerced into drinking more and had a grand old time partying with Lena's GVRD friends. One girl at the party looked really damn familiar and it took me about half an hour to figure it out... she went to high school with Fri. How the hell do I remember that kind of stuff? Really? (I don't even try, it just happens!)

Teresa comments on the comments

Note to Fri: if/when you get to Hong Kong or other web cafe that doesn't have weirdo firewalls against blogspot, you will notice that the comments that people leave on this site are far less urgent/obscene/riot-inciting as yours or Attention Whore's. But don't let that stop you from posting other messages here. I quite like returning to my own site seeing peoples' comments.

You can only do this with your friends...

Last night, shopping with Tanya:
1. Scam rides for other people (promoting the cause of ride-sharing and carpooling)
2. Mutually support shopaholic tendencies ("We got good purchases today! Aren't I not so super-cute?")
3. Try on each other's potential purchases and buy them ("Well, I do have a black sweater already but not quite with this neckline...")
4. Make their dinner decisions for them ("Should I get the spicy bowl or the jumbalaya bowl?")
5. In the middle of a conversation with music in the background, to all of a sudden break out into song with the music itself ("Ever since I saw your face, nothin' in my life has been the same, I walk around just saying your name, without you my world would end, yeah")

Hee hee hee. Tanya, you ROCK!

Lots of News. How about in chronological order?

Friday Sept. 12 - BINGO with Lena and Tanya at Planet Bingo on Main St. A real good time. We were newbies, you could tell. Our tablemates just laughed at us trying to figure out the bingo configurations for each game, even helped us out a little. Then, there was almost a riot when someone called Bingo and wasn't heard. He went up to the caller and was sent back to his seat and EVERYONE thought that was unfair that they revolted by banging their dabbers against the tables... it all got sorted out by the end of the next game, but wheew... drama.

Saturday Sept. 13 - shopping in LANGLEY with Lena and Tanya again. Spent 4 hours in about 4 stores. Came home with decent stuff, but not the 'outlet' prices we were looking for. Party at Boffo's, met up with The Blondes, and ended up at some place in Richmond where the host was adamant that we take off our shoes. Never figured a house that didn't give a shit that doobs were being smoked like there was no tomorrow would care so much about the floor... It was at that point that Christina made a fuss about taking off her v. cool 'Eskimo' boots, when whilst being introduced to Michelle's friend Robbie, that she DROPPED her Smirnoff Ice on the floor, shattering on the tile. Lucky we were wearing shoes at that point. Banished ourselves to seating until we blew that popsicle stand - the Blondes went downtown, Lena and I went home. Heheh.

Sunday Sept. 14 - get call from Junko who has set a wedding date of October 6, 2003... in less than three weeks from now. Also get phone calls from other people, one of whom's basement floods. Good afternoon.

Monday Sept. 15 - search for venue for Junko's wedding. Also, White Stripes concert with Tony. His birthday present. Good concert, although the band didn't interact with the audience very much, they were quite intense on stage. The opening band was entertaining (named something about a Robot)... not very good as the lead singer looked like he was a.) on crack; and b.) pretending to be Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction. Well they had a couple songs that were fun - something about dancing, and the other one about ex-girlfriends driving black Jettas around Encino. Hee hee. Laughed at Tony and said, "Good thing mine's green!" Hee hee.

Today!!! Sept. 16 - have venue for Junko's wedding, and possible second venue for picnic reception. Venue #1 is Ceperley Picnic Site at Stanley Park (Second Beach); Venue #2 is Brockton Pavilion where the Cricket Club House is. If Venue #2 is a go, will cancel #1. Still have to work on the invitations (cannot be sent until venue is set); catering, flowers, music, clothing... am I forgetting something already?

Also, welcome Niko to the blog. He can post now. As opposed to just comment.

PS: If I haven't said so already, congrats to Junko for setting the date and thanks for making me a bridesmaid/organizer/taskmaster/BITCH for this occasion. Love ya!

A Morning in the Life...

After spending $120.00 in groceries this week I thought I'd make use of the money spent and make lunch for myself. Turkey breast on rye with butter lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, and cucumbers. Mmm. Carrots (mini pre-cut ones... worth it) and red grapes. And a fruit cup thrown in. Wow, healthy me! (As opposed to lunch at one of the many fast food establishments within 5 minutes driving distance...) Wonder how this will last. Probably until the groceries run out... at which point I think my mommy will be home from the Philippines and we can go grocery shopping together again. Yay!

Morning spent chasing after people and their money they owe us. And then 'negotiating' with a crazy old lady for a bus. Argh. It is now 11:00 and I have run out of faxes to answer to. Sheesh.

Came upon a very entertaining blog...

For those teachers out there, or nearly-teachers, or wannabe writing critics... I stumbled upon this blog titled "You Call that a Sentence?!" which had me laughing for a while. Well, at least 15 minutes until I had to do real work... Respect to all those who want to shape young impressionable minds.

Grocery Shopping

I miss my mommy to go grocery shopping with and then losing her in the store. Today I went to the gym!! (Congratulate me)... then afterwards rewarded myself by a full on trip to Safeway where I bought the groceries.

Was contemplating buying a pack of hot chocolate mix and had plenty to choose from... looked at the milk chocolate one vs. the one with marshmallows in it, when my eyes fell upon the Carnation "Light" hot chocolate. Intrigued, I picked up this package and wondered that if one cup was only 49 calories, how much a "Regular" cup would have. 120. Aaagh! Then I looked closer at the packaging. The "Regular" pouch size was 28 grams of powder in each pouch. The "Light" pouch size had only 13 grams of powder in each pouch. Both recommend adding 175 ml of water (3/4 cup). So basically, "Light" contained less than half the amount of powder as the "Regular"... and only had ten pouches. If I were to be economical about the whole thing I'd just buy the "Regular" and only use half a pouch per cup of hot chocolate I made.

Then I realized I was putting too much math/thought into this and bought frozen juice instead.

Scott's Visit Last Week

Gotta get this done before I forget. 'Twas a good time.

Aug. 25 - Scott arrived. Picked up by Jenn/Andrew. Met up with them for dinner at Hon's. YUM.

Aug. 26 - I had to work. Didn't get to spend any time with Scott, plus my younger cousins were staying overnight for their BIG DAY OUT THE THE AQUARIUM. Sarah and Alyssha had a little too much fun playing with the house intercom. I ignored them by cleaning my room. Then later took them to Blockbuster where they insisted on renting Stitch.

Aug. 27 - Aquarium Day with Alyssha, Sarah, and Nicolas. Surprisingly well-behaved. Aimed at Tim Ho's for breakfast, where Scott met up with us... instead of muffins or whatever, they all insisted on Frosties. The Aquarium was cool, got to see the dolphin and beluga training... I ended up giving them each a $15.00 'allowance' for whatever they wanted in the gift shop. After much hemming and hawing they all ended up with Sea Monkeys. Crazy kids. Dropped them off with Mimi who was going to take them home whilst me and Scott hung out in Yaletown, then met up with Niko, Brit, and Ante at Hachibei. Then somehow ended up at Kings' Head for beers afterwards. Good times! Long day.

Aug. 28 - Beginning of Victoria Adventure. Picked up Scott and headed for the ferries to Victoria, got our reservation on time despite tunnel traffic. After we left the ferry in Swartz Bay, continued to downtown Victoria when my 'check engine' light went on. WTF? So was very concerned as that has never happened to me before. Parked the car and tried starting it again. Sounded fine. Drove ok. But still concerned about it. Walked around downtown Victoria where we met Scott's old high school buddy Mark (whom we were staying with). Mark showed us around for a bit, then went to dinner and proceeded to get very plastered at a Tapa Bar, and then at some other bar downtown. Practically yelled 'douche?' in front of our waitress, who heard the weirdest things coming out of our mouths every time she stepped to our table. Many giggles. And smoked way too many cigarettes between us (bad, I know. Shut up.) Slept pretty well on the futon.

Aug. 29 - End of Victoria Adventure. Morning at Joe's Cafe. No inappropriate comments every time the waitress walked by this time. Must have been because of the booth we were at, where the waitress rarely came by. Plus lack of alcohol. Did driving tour of Victoria/Saanich/Oak Bay/UVic. Mark left us to our own devices because he was off to work, so Scott and I spent the rest of the day downtown walking/shopping/sitting on patios/adopting a third world baby elephant/watching street performers/waiting for ferry. At the ferry terminal got a call from my brother and mentioned to him my 'check engine' message, and asked him to check it out. But at that moment I got off the phone with him, I just happened to turn the car on and the 'check engine' message turned itself off. WTF! Our hypothesis was that my car does not like Vancouver Island, or perhaps it knew something we didn't. Well, as it turns out we didn't run into anyone we didn't want to see, so maybe my car sensed that and steered us clear of it. Funny, attaching human traits to non-human objects was a theme for the trip too. Back in Vancouver, got stuck in traffic driving downtown because I made the mistake of taking Granville to Smithe. Took 20 minutes to cross two blocks. When it was finally my turn to turn left this bitch ass skank in a Camry comes around and takes a left from the right turn lane like she was from New York. Incensed, I promptly turned to the horn, and yelled at her at the next stop light. Stupid woman. (I've never yelled at someone in traffic before. Not to their faces anyway.)

Aug. 30 - off-day. For me, anyway, Scott hung with his sister. Called him up later and we went for coffee, visited Niko at Vancouver Cigar, then Ante and Stojanka showed up. Ended up at Nevermind. Good times.

Aug. 31 - another off-day. Can't remember what happened.

Sept. 1 - Labour Day. I did something, but can't remember what either. Dinner at Stepho's on Davie with Jenn and Andrew and Scott. Took Scott to airport, sang Shania Twain and RENT together. It's been a long time since I've listened to RENT so I didn't quite remember all the words... but it seems to be a 'tradition' at airports with Scotty where we do a little number from RENT to ourselves. (Yeah, I'm a geek. Keep it down.)

Anywho, that was that. Was glad the weather held up... but supposedly not for the forest fires.

ahhh.

Weird dream, but mmm.

Had a dream about Mark Valley (Keen Eddie, Pasadena, Days of Our Lives). Yum. Except in this dream he wasn't Keen Eddie the detective, he was all giddy about opening up his new dentist's office. We forged a relationship after I yelled at him for talking to my chest.

It sucks that they cancelled the Keen Eddie show. Mind you I didn't get to watch it that much because it was on weird nights (e.g. Tuesday, cheap movie night)... I hope Fox smartens up and brings it back. Mark Valley is hot! But his floppy-haired partner could do with a hair cut. What is up with English guys and floppy hair? It's almost enough to reverse my Anglophile stance.

Teresa comments on Distractions from Going to the Gym

All last week and, well, basically since August 15, I have been saying that THIS WEEK, I am returning to the gym. And I am. Except not the gym. Going to take advantage of the nice weather and do the Seawall with Tanya.

See, I had planned and everything, got up this morning and packed my gym bag... but not thirty minutes after I was at work, was called by Tanya asking if I wouldn't mind going walking for an hour and a bit instead. Hmm. Sweaty gym vs. fresh outdoors. Didn't have to flip much of a coin there. I would skip going to Fitness World for just about anything except today, today I was planning on walking in and being all important in my corporate clothes signing in at the desk, changing into my Arts County Fair t-shirt with the flames on it... then hiding from the male 'roid monkey population in the Women's Only section.

Damn it, Tanya!

It's just as well... I couldn't find my gym lock this morning and just now realized I'd also left my water bottle and towel at home too.

Teresa comments on Pop Culture

Item #1: Canadian Idol. Have not been paying much attention to it except for watching maybe 15 minutes of it tonight... intermittently... caught a really bad Cyndi Lauper tribute by one of the remaining contestants - crazy wig and everything... but none of the contestants piqued my interest so much as Ben Mulroney did. Ahh, Ben... I'd like to call him pretty but he looks too much like a cross between Elvis and a guy I used to date. (The um, nautical one.) I think it's the dopey look. Er, doe eyes. Yeah. Anyway, Canadian Idol is an interesting variety show that sadly doesn't compare to American Idol, which is much more cheesy... and frankly, the sexual tension between Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest is more believable than Ben and Sass.

(aside... like the name Ben, though... mmm, but not as much as Evan.)

Item #2: The OC. Starting to get into the show. Although I find it increasingly hard to believe late-20-something actors playing 16-year-olds. I mean, it fooled me when we were younger watching 90210, when we were young and impressionable... except the woman who played Andrea (Ondrea), who still looked like she was 30... and then left the show a couple years later when it became obvious that she was like 35... Hey I miss being unemployed and being able to enjoy 90210 reruns. (uh, not really, I couldn't get into it even back then.)

Item #3: Bridget Jones. After watching the movie and then reading the books and becoming quite confused over the differences, have found self starting to write in manner of Bridget Jones' Diary. Will not, however, be recording any weight/smoking/alcohol/caloric/seconds-since-last-had-sex stats on this blog because frankly, that's lame. And none of your business. Ahh, but so entertaining. Planning on going to gym tomorrow. First must aim to get up on time, pack bag for gym so not to have to come home first. Mmm, planning. So easy to write without possessive nouns.

Gonna have a late night donut (leftover from lunch). Again, will recount last week... later...

Returning from Scottland.

Busy week. Great time off. Scott went home last night. My car has an aversion to Vancouver Island. More soon, for my loyal readers. Love you!

PS: after watching Bridget Jones three times a couple weekends ago, went out and bought the book and its sequel. Finished BOTH OF THEM this past weekend. I am officially crazy.

PPS: shout outs to Tanya and Michelle who are BACK TO SCHOOL THIS WEEK. See you in 8 months!!! Heheh.
